Appointments

We operate a same day access surgery every morning (limited appointments available). We are constantly making changes to our appointment system to adapt with patient demand.

Currently we are able to offer a limited amount of routine face to face and telephone appointments that can be booked on the day by calling the surgery at 8am Monday to Friday. We also offer routine face to face appointments or telephone appointments that can be booked up to four weeks in advance by calling the surgery on the above number, your request for pre-booked appointment can also be sent via email to reception.pontprennau@wales.nhs.uk or via the NHS Wales app (please do not use these services for 'same day' or emergency appointments).

Please contact reception for an allocated appointment time.

Please be aware that at the direction of the doctors you may be asked to give a brief reason for the appointment. This is so we can direct you to the best service or clinician for you. One service you may be directed towards is UPCC (Urgent Primary Care Centre), based in Whitchurch Road Surgery. You can see GP's from across the cluster for ailments such as chest infections, tonsillitis, UTI, back pain plus many more

We would like to make patients aware that if you call the practice on a smartphone we do advise that you should end the call and redial instead of using the call back function as you may not be added in the queue.

If the doors are closed and you need to speak to a doctor between 8 am & 6.30 pm, you should ring 02920 739999  and a message will give information on how to do this.

Nurse Triage

When you call to book an appointment with your GP you may be offered an appointment with one of our two prescribing practice nurses, if more appropriate. They can see such ailments as chest infections, tonsillitis, urine infections, skin infections etc.

Please remember that our reception team are offering you these appointments following guidance and training from the doctors.

Chaperone Policy

Please be aware that if you would like a chaperone present during an intimate examination (or for any other reason) please inform reception staff or your Doctor/Nurse.

In the event of the practice not being able to offer you a chaperone at that time, you will be given the option of re-booking for a new date.

Test Results

The receptionist will be able to give you results of investigations after 2.00 pm, either at the counter or by telephone. It is the patients responsibility to contact the practice to find out the results of any test.

If you intend to have your bloods taken at a different surgery or hospital please ensure that the blood form used has come from the practice. If our blood form is not used your results may not get sent to the practice and can cause a delay in your treatment.

Cancellations

If you cannot attend an appointment for any reason please inform us as soon as possible in order for us to give the appointment to someone else.
